ShelterBox
The Rotary Club of Diamond Creek proudly supports ShelterBox Australia – a Rotary International project that hand-delivers aid to families devastated by conflict or disaster, to give them durable shelter and the tools to rebuild communities.
Our global network of supporters, staff and volunteers make it possible to deliver aid to some of the most remote communities in the world, aid that is tailored to meet the needs of a community after a specific disaster.
The aid supplied comes in the form of ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits.
The green ShelterBox contains family-sized tents specially designed to withstand the elements and provide people with temporary shelter until they are able to start the process of rebuilding a home.
The ShelterKits contain all of the essential tools people need to start repairing and rebuilding homes straight away.
The kits and boxes also contain the items that help transform shelter into a home – like cooking sets, solar lights and activity sets for children.
The items are specially sourced and designed to ensure that the families in need have exactly the aid they need. The aid is designed to withstand extreme conditions, from torrential rain to hurricane winds, and to last for a long time – until families are able to rebuild their homes.
The aid is delivered to wherever it is needed, by any means possible. Our teams travel by foot, boat, helicopter or even tuk-tuk to get there. Whatever it takes.
Rotary Clubs all over Australia, including the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek, raise money from within their communities and donate these funds to ShelterBox Australia, which in turn organises the purchase and distribution of aid to affected communities.
Rotary and ShelterBox Australia will respond to disasters in the Southwest Pacific and Southeast Asia.

The funds are raised by volunteers from within the Rotary Club, and the aid is distributed by a variety of means and then arranged and organised at the disaster site by volunteer ShelterBox Response Team members. These volunteer SRT members, mostly made up from within Rotary Clubs, are trained in disaster response and able to travel to disaster regions at short notice.
