It’s been about 4 weeks since I came back to Japan. My city, Sapporo is cold everyday. So, I’m missing hot weather in Australia! Also, I miss you all.
I had decided not to go back to school because I already finished all my exams. It means, I have nothing to do even if I go to the school. Lucky me! However, I’ll participate in the graduation ceremony in March. For now, I’m looking for a job that I could use English. ( Receptionist etc. )
Let’s get down to the main point, It is nearly 9 weeks since I have participated to RYLA conference. It wasn’t just an experience but its life-altering experience. There were many challenges and fun time.
Before I went to RYLA, I was nervous. I didn’t know much about RYLA. So, I worried about many things. “Who will coming?”, “What I’ll doing?” and so on. But I didn’t need to worry about that. Actually, RYLA was a great opportunity to know important things for young adults including me.
The people who participated to RYLA, they all were amazing. They had each purposes, passion and goals. Also, everyone was kind to me. As you all know, I couldn’t speak English fluently. Therefore, I struggled to understand some sessions and also I wasn’t good at group or pair discussion. But, if I needed some help, they gave me the hands. If I wanted an encourage from everyone, they gave me the voices. The problems that I was worried, it didn’t big problems.
“Challenge by choice.” I remember this words strongly.
During the RYLA, I did some challenges. Which was the leadership challenges, Giant Swing, Leap of Faith and Body Lift. Some of these challenges were difficult a little bit for me. Giant Swing and Leap of Faith were big things I’ve ever done. I tried to the Giant Swing with blindfold. Also, I tried to the Leap of Faith and I set a challenge and goal. My challenge was to do the juggle at the top of the pole, and my goal was to jump from there. Both challenges were scared, however, all of the participants (RYLArians) gave me the big encourage and great supports.
Each challenges has the purposes and I guess its to influence in different form to everyone. Through these challenges, I have learnt to believe in myself and others.
Also, I think Rotary dinner was one of the challenge things and we all of RYLArians and supporters made an amazing night. At that night, I participated to dinner as a waitress. In a preparation time, I was in charge of table decoration. I’m proud of myself that I could great jobs. When everyone said to me that the decorations were good, that made me feel glorious! I’m proud of RYLArians too! Everyone did a great job at that night.
At the end of the Rotary dinner, everyone got excited. It was one of my highlights.
In the past, I was negative thinking person. Therefore when I thinking something, I usually think negatively first. Like, “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good enough”. But RYLA experience has been changed my personality.
So now, I became a positive thinking person. Being positive brings happy to me and others. “I can do this!”, “I’m good enough!”, “I got this!”. The way of positive thinking make life richer. And this is one of skills that I have got from RYLA.
I have learned about myself, others and a lot of things. I have made many amazing friends who could support each others. And I gained so many tools and skills that I could use in my real life. Such as leadership skill, mood control, pose and notice, juggle and so on.
RYLA was invaluable and its actually unforgettable experience.
In the future, I want to keep using some skills and tools that I have got from RYLA. Also, I would like to participate to RYLA in Japan one day. I’m not sure where I could yet but it will be a great to know different RYLA.
Thank you to Rotary club of Diamond Creek for given me a chance to experience RYLA 2017. I really appreciate that I got this an amazing opportunity.
