‘True leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders.’
The Interact Club of Diamond Valley College is official! Today we received our official Certificate of Organisation which will be handed over to the Interact Club at its Charter celebration.
Linda Gidlund has worked long and hard to get this Interact Club off the ground and our enormous thanks go to her for her perseverance, enthusiasm and dedication. Thank you, Linda.
Essentially, an Interact Club brings together young people of high school age to develop leadership skills working towards the motto of ‘Service Above Self’. The young people in the club become active in community service to make a difference in their local community and in their school. The Interact Club will meet at least twice a month and they will need to organise at least two projects throughout the year – one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.
It is important to remember that the Interact Club is not just Linda’s responsibility, it is OUR responsibility and it is to be hoped that all members of Diamond Creek Rotary take an interest in it. It is imperative that we, as Rotarians, support them and mentor them. We can assist with their projects and invite them to take part in some our club projects, such as the Diamond Creek Rotary Town Fair. We do need to be present at their fortnightly meetings, so it is to be hoped that those Rotarians who are available during the day volunteer to attend some of their meetings.
Throughout the world there are 20,372 Interact Clubs with 468,556 Interactors in 159 countries. That is quite amazing! In our District there are only six other Interact Clubs - at Montmorency Secondary College, Aitken College, Greenvale, Riddells Creek, Charles La Trobe Secondary College, Heidelberg West, St Helena Secondary College and at the Kilmore International School. And now, Diamond Valley College and Diamond Creek Rotary are a part of the Interact community.
In the next few weeks, details of their charter celebration will be known. It will possibly be held in the evening, so I hope that all members will be there to congratulate and support them.
