...it’s just this side of feeling like you have witnessed some kind of magic. It’s this spell that you’re under, to be part of that.” - Julia Roberts
It is only a couple of weeks until the first performances of Shakespeare’s ‘The Dream’ take place.
This is an exciting new project for Diamond Creek Rotary to be involved with. Whilst the
organisation from our perspective has been minimal, this production gives us an opportunity to
provide something very different for our local community. Outdoor productions of Shakespeare’s plays are very popular and I hope that local people will take the opportunity to see this very professional production company, ‘Soothplayers’, perform this popular Shakespearian comedy.
Tickets have been selling well. As of last Tuesday about 100 tickets have been sold and none of the major publicity has taken place yet. Expect to see an article in this week’s ‘Diamond Valley Leader’ promoting the production and six real estate signs will be erected around Eltham and Diamond Creek this week. Thank you to Phil who is asking some of the owners of fair sign locations if they are prepared to have a sign for ‘The Dream’. Hopefully they will agree!
The cast and crew have been keen to involve other organisations and businesses around Diamond Creek and we thank our friends at the Diamond Creek Men’s Shed for allowing them to build the sets there.
The production is actually set in 1946 and an interesting side attraction will be a display of historical Nillumbik items from that era. The cast and crew have been in touch with some of the local historical societies and have obtained some wonderful display items, including the sash presented to ‘Miss Diamond Creek 1946’!
The long range weather forecast looks just perfect with temperatures around 28 degrees on the first weekend and 24 degrees on the second weekend.
I know that not all members are supportive of us sponsoring this project, or maybe you think that Shakespeare is not your thing. But please put any of your personal reservations aside and volunteer to help us on one of the nights or put a picnic together and bring your family along for a great night’s entertainment. This is Diamond Creek Rotary’s chance to make a positive contribution to our local community – please be a part of it!
