‘We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build the youth for our future.’
-Franklin D Roosevelt
Youth Service is the Rotary International theme for the month of May. And what better way to celebrate this, than to Charter the Interact Club at Diamond Valley College! Last Friday Diamond Creek Rotary did just that!
it was great to see a number of our members present to witness this special event. Since it is the role the sponsoring Rotary Club to provide support and guidance to the new Interact Club, our presence can start to demonstrate this. I hope that we can provide support for many years into the future.
After officially handing over the Certificate of Charter to the new President, Kylah, all of the members were inducted and given a Certificate of Membership and an Interact pin.
The students are keen and passionate about serving their community. It is their hope to
build the number of members in the club.
Two of the students have already attended RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) and they told us about their experiences there and their enthusiasm shone through.
The members are already working on their first project which is: ‘Guess the Lollies in the Jar’. The members will charge other students from throughout the school, twenty cents to guess the numbers and use the competition to raise money. They are considering raising money for new display cases to be placed around the school so that student’s art work can be presented.
We celebrated with a delicious cake!
The Interact Club meets every second Thursday at Diamond Valley College and all Diamond Creek Rotary members are welcome to attend. So, if you have the opportunity, do go along and be a part of this very exciting new club. I am sure that you will find it a valuable experience.
