The Meeting of Tuesday 6th March 2018
Youth Services: Linda Gidlund attended the Rotaract Club of Diamond Valley last night and listened to their speaker Pam Woods who spoke about meeting the needs of villages in Uganda for clean water. Linda suggested Pam would make a good speaker for a multi club meeting.
Town Fair: PDG John Gatt informed members that he and Greg Adams are waiting for the Nillumbik Council representatives to make an appointment to discuss funding.
PP Greg Paull reported that the PETS meeting on Sunday was good, as was his meeting with
the Rotary Club of Greensborough yesterday. The club plans to set up an interact club. Greg
met up with the Club’s Japanese Exchange student in Sapporo last week and mentioned
that Lisa Tanaka misses us all. She has a job starting in April as a Retail assistant in a large
store over the Sapporo station.
Chairperson Clyde Hulme introduced Renee and Meg who gave a report on Shakespeare's The Dream. Renee Mackenzie and Meg Deyell thanked the Rotary Club for sponsoring their
production and they gave the club feedback from the community. They presented Rotary
with a framed picture of the Dream with comments from the community.
Guest Speaker: Rotarian Bruce Anderson gave a very comprehensive and comprehensible
report on the current position of the campaign to eradicate Polio, as well the nature of the
virus and the different vaccines.
This calendar year there have been 3 cases of Polio worldwide. In 2015 Rotarians contributed 1.5 Billion US dollars to the cause. Three years after the last case of Polio it will be eradicated never to return, due to the following factors:
1. There are no animal reservoirs for the virus
2. The virus cannot survive in the environment.
The Rotary Club of Diamond Creek presented Bruce with a cheque for $2000 towards Polio
