The Club was chartered in April 1959. The Rotary Club of Dingwall is our Mother Club and in turn we are the Mother Club of the Rotary Club of Portree.
In 1957 suggestions were made by members of the Dingwall Rotary Club that a club be formed in Stornoway. By 1959 there were 25 members ready to establish the Rotary Club of Stornoway with the territorial limits of the parishes of Stornoway, Barvas, Uig and Lochs.
By 1988 two ex-Stornoway members living in Skye were ready with the help of the Stornoway Club to form the Rotary club of Portree and District.
The club organises and hosts an annual Swimarathon to raise funds for the End Polio Now campaign and local charities.
In September 2017 they launched the Friends of the Nicolson Trust Fund which will support students attending events or training on the mainland by providing financial support to assist with travel costs.
The club arranged a young talent show Kaleidoscope as a means of fundraising for the then Nicolson Institute Travel Fund
The Club meets at the Caladh Inn every Tuesday from 12:30pm
