This week's Guest Speaker will be Neisha Forbes, who is Secretary of the Plenty Historical Society.
At some stage, most of you will have driven along Yan Yean Road and passed 'Sugar Buds Florist' which is housed in the original Methodist Church which was built in 1925. The current re-alignment of Yan Yean Road, greatly affected the future of the church building and the most likely outcome for this historical building would be that it would be demolished.
Neisha and other members of the Plenty Historical Society worked tirelessly and with much determination to save the church.
They argued that the church building had an historical and cultural significance to the people of Plenty and must be retained on the existing site. Unfortunately, the plans for the road would not allow the church to stay. However a concerted campaign brought sufficient pressure for the church to be relocated to Plenty Heritage Park (where the Plenty Hall is located).
Come along to our meeting and hear Neisha tell us the story of the church and the campaign that the Historical Society put forward to save it!
