Diamond Creek Rotary has a very special Guest Speaker on Tuesday night. Joining us will be former Olympic and Commonwealth Games Coach, Tony Benson. Tony was an Olympian at the 1972 Olympic Games and was ranked fifth in the world in the 5000 metres events. In 1979, Tony accepted the position of National Coach in the Philippines and in the early 1990's he was the National Track and Field Coach for Australia. He has coached the likes of Steve Moneghetti and Emma Carney, who was a World Champion triathlete.
Tony currently co-ordinates our project in the Philippines - 'Run Out Of Poverty'. Diamond Creek Rotary is proud to sponsor this project which aims to assist disadvantaged children from Davao City to train and compete in athletics. It is the project's hope that many of these children will develop the skills and abilities to be able to compete nationally and internationally or to obtain an Athletic Scholarship for a Filipino University.
We are very excited to have Tony speaking at our meeting - come along and hear about this great project.
