Lisa Tanaka was an exchange student hosted by the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek in 2017. Below is a copy of her Thank You Speech that she read out to us at our Christmas Party before she returned back to Japan
Last Friday, I had a great birthday.
Fortunate, Greg and Merri gave me an opportunity to go to Puffing Billy as a birthday gift. I had wanted to go to Puffing Billy so, I was excited! I went to there with Amy and Lauren. We got on the steam train to go to Lakeside. At Lakeside, we found some little ducks on the lake. They were so cute. And we walked around beside a lake and we had an ice cream at the last. Then, we got back.
At the evening on that day was a little bit surprised. Because John, Eileen, Linda and Merri's father Bob came to the house. And we had dinner together. It was really nice time and I enjoyed it. After dinner, we had an ice cream cake. Which was ice cream with ice cream! (Drumstick and other ice cream) And it was the best birthday ice cream cake ever! I loved it.
Anyway, I appreciate to everyone who made my day. And thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes.
By the way, this is the last time to participate in Rotary meeting for me.
And 11 days left in this beautiful country. It brings me so many memories and emotions.
312 days ago, I left home country to go to Australia for improve my English, make many new friends, learn new things and cultures, find out myself and explor a whole new part of the world.
Going on exchange is the best decision I've ever made.
I was nervous and worried about starting my new life, away from my family, friends and the place where I've lived for a long time. But also, I had a high motivation and excitement. Curious about what was waiting and what I could get from this experiences.
To learn English was really hard and I struggled it. Because I couldn't understand and speak English well at the beginning of my exchange.
Imagine, when I first did a little speech at Platters Cafe & Bar. It was so bad.
I still can't speak English fluently. However, my English has been improved. I can understand what you all said. I can talk whatever I want to talk in English. And it's because you all your support. So I appereciate that.
I've travelled half around Australia and seen many different part of the country and I've been to many amazing places more than in Japan! The Safari trip was my highlight. It was the best thing.
I've met many wonderful people and I've made many amazing friends who will be a long life friends. The friendship that I've made through out this exchange life are truly fantastic. And my host families, they are lovely and amazing. They all make me feel comfortable and part of the family.
Also, you all Rotarians are amazing too. Thank you all for welcomed warmly every time that I came to the meetings. I loved to participate in the meetings! I'm so glad to have met you all. I've learned lots of things. And I've gaind many good skills. This exchange life changed who I am, and who I want to be. I got expand my horizons and more strong mentally. The whole experiences are definitely worth it.
Thank you Rotary for everything.
Thank you Rotary Club of Diamond Creek for hosting me past 10 months.
Thank you all so much for making my year the best year in my life. I can't thank you all enough for you've done for me. It has been an amazing experience but my life in Australia is nearly over. I can't believe how fast time goes by!
But, soon enough, I'll move on to the next chapter of my life.
I just let you all know, I love Australia and the people who I've met in this year.
Australia will be always in my heart. I don't want to say good-bye to everyone so, I'll say
"See you all later!" I'll definitely come back here one day.
Once again, thank you all for everything.
